Photography shows are funny things; some photographers absolutely hate them, some absolutely love them, and then there are those that sit in-between. I think I’m the ‘in-between’; I love seeing the new tech, I hate having to spend my money 😂
I remember a lot of photographers last year commenting on people coming to the photography show with their cameras and, well, sort of finding it funny (I go without a camera btw as I use one all week). WELL, from a marketing point of view, I thought this flexibility in listening to your customer was absolutely fantastic; this year, there were loads of stands where it was a complete scene layout with a model who was there all day to pose for all the people who brought their camera. Listening to your customers is essential – what can you take away from your customers and turn them into a marketing opportunity?
In the age of online shopping, it can be really difficult to actually check out all the equipment and see new innovations without shows like this, and that is why I’ll keep going and supporting them. This doesn’t mean they will sell loads on the day, but I bet they will notice a peak in their supply chain requirements during and after the shows.
Long may the photography shows continue, and may they also continue to listen to their customers and innovate their customer experience.
