Quick Overview
I unbox the Maono Wave T5 AI wireless lavalier system (Combo Pack), set it up with both camera and phone, then switch the video’s audio over to the T5 so you can hear what it actually does — including the AI noise reduction. There’s an outdoor test in wind, app screen-recording, and a quick tour of the charging case, magnets, lanyard and clip. Spoiler: I’m impressed by the consistent levels and the fact I didn’t need my usual post-processing.
What’s inside & why I chose the Combo Pack
-
Charging case holding two transmitters + receiver, with USB-C charging and a neat, compact footprint.
-
Camera receiver (3-position gain dial, mono/stereo switch, USB-C passthrough).
-
Phone receivers for Lightning and USB-C, so I can capture clean audio on the spot with just a phone.
-
Magnetic mounting, lanyard, clip, wind muffs, cables — and… stickers (yes, with practical colour options to blend in on clothing).
Setup & first use
-
Paired in minutes; the app is straightforward (gain slider, noise reduction levels, “voice enhancer”, firmware updates).
-
AI noise reduction is a one-tap toggle on the unit (green = on, red = off), with adjustable strength in the app.
-
I swap the video’s audio live to the T5 so you can hear the difference immediately.
Field test (wind & distance)
-
Quick outdoor test ~5m from camera with wind present.
-
Wind muffs are a bit chunky (my only style gripe) but practical.
-
Phone receiver also doubles as a handy grip when filming.
Post-production takeaway (the big one)
Listening back in the edit suite, the input levels are bang-on and consistent across camera and phone, so I didn’t do my usual noise-reduction/EQ pass. For multi-cam jobs, that consistency is gold.
Likes
-
It just works — minimal faff, intuitive hardware + app.
-
Consistent levels across devices; easy to keep dialogue at usable volume.
-
Genuinely mobile: camera and phone adapters in one kit.
-
Magnet + lanyard mount avoids the usual “magnet vanished in my shirt” drama.
Niggles
-
Wind muff size isn’t the most discreet.
-
Would love to split mics across phone + camera simultaneously — might be possible with pairing wizardry, but not obvious.
Who this is for
Creators and teams who shoot on both camera and phone, want clean audio with minimal post, and appreciate on-device AI noise reduction without learning a new ecosystem.
