The Shropshire Photographic Society arranged for an evening with Joe Cornish at the Walker Theatre within the Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury.
Now I don’t normally go in for talks, as generally, I find them a bit boring but Joe is one of my heroes in Landscape Photography (I currently have three) and this was too close an opportunity to miss.
To be quite honest I wasn’t really expecting much out of the evening but just the fact that I could say I met him was enough.
Not being a theatre-goer, I was shocked by how immaculate and well presented the Theatre Severn was and it immediately raised a bit of excitement that I might be in for a good evening. It’s amazing how a venue can promote such feelings just on first impressions.
It just so happened that I managed to get a front-row seat right next to the podium which was a bonus. Joe’s experience in talks showed, as he was very comfortable and at ease with the audience and immediately captivated everyone with his words. It was great to hear an artist’s inspirations and tribulations about their work and Joe explained this through a carefully planned selection of his life’s work.
If you ever get the chance to see Joe I would encourage it, as he totally inspired me in my own work and I came out buzzing with excitement for the future. Now I must say that even if you are not a photographer (as a few people there were not) you would still enjoy the talk as it wasn’t a techie talk but focused on the art of the photographs.
